BIG Method Course: Experimental design


The Bioinformatics Interest Group (BIG - https://bigatrigel.wordpress.com/about-us/) organizes a workshop on "Experimental design" on January 31 from 12:00 to 17:00 and on February 1 from 08:00 to 12:00. The course will take place in the seminar room DE.0.133.
 
Course outline and learning outcome

 

The course will take a format of a guided discussion. PhD students will receive an article to read in advance (one article per student group). In the morning session, students will give a journal club presentation of their article, followed by discussion with an emphasis on the employed experimental design used in the article. In the afternoon session, students will design a study of their own, in groups, followed by discussion of the study designs. In the course students will gain experience in autonomously designing their own experimental design, regardless of the research question and critically evaluate published experimental designs. With an emphasis on research questions that require high throughout sequencing methods and bioinformatic analysis.
 
Maximum capacity of students
 
In order to have a productive discussion, a maximum of 15 students will be accepted for the course, with a priority for “Bioinformatics Interest Group” members, which is funded by SFB960.
